Discover the insights of Hernán Vietto's insights from DarConf S07E01. He explores how non-developers can build powerful, real-world software solutions using AI and shares a practical methodology for automating administrative bottlenecks and leveraging conversational prompting to create custom applications without writing manual code.
Welcome to the future of software creation, where traditional coding knowledge is no longer a strict prerequisite to building powerful, automated tools. In our first DarConf of the year, titled "Applied AI: Real Software Creation Cases for Non-Developers ", our Hiring Manager Hernán Vietto showcased a groundbreaking approach to leveraging Artificial Intelligence to solve daily administrative bottlenecks.
Whether you are in HR, marketing, or administration, here is how you can adopt an AI-first mindset to build real software solutions.
The golden rule: Automate solutions, not chaos
Before opening a code editor or writing a single line of logic, Hernán emphasizes a crucial four-step methodology that begins with identifying the problem. The goal is to avoid applying AI just for the sake of it, which can accidentally automate chaos and create more issues.
Instead, look for highly repetitive tasks in your workflow, such as manually standardizing resumes, updating job opportunities, or sending candidate follow-ups. Once the problem is clearly defined, AI can be brought in to map out the solution.
Conversational prompting: Meet your new business analyst
You don't need to master complex, highly technical prompt engineering to get results. Hernán's secret weapon is interacting with AI (like Gemini) conversationally, treating it like a "friend," a Product Owner, or a Business Analyst.
By engaging in long, detailed discussions before generating any code, you can ensure the AI understands at least 80% of your business needs up front. A robust, well-prepared initial prompt is vastly more effective and efficient than asking the AI to develop a tool through tiny, incremental steps.
Pro-Tip for Non-Developers: Ask the AI to treat you as a junior developer or a complete beginner. Request that it generates detailed documentation at every step and have it explain the libraries it chooses, including their pros and cons. This strategy ensures you learn the concepts while the AI does the heavy lifting.
Real-world software built by a non-developer
To prove that anyone can architect complex software, Hernán shared several impressive applications he developed using tools like Visual Studio Code, GitHub Copilot, and Antigravity:
The Gmail ATS (Applicant Tracking System): To ensure no candidate email ever goes unanswered, Hernán prompted the AI to build a custom application directly inside Gmail. Using Google Apps Script and the Gmail API, the AI proposed an architecture that groups candidates by opportunity and uses Google Sheets to store the data.
React-Based CV Evaluator: Despite having zero prior knowledge of the React framework, Hernán built a local application that analyzes resumes and provides 35 specific professional recommendations. By focusing intensely on the "what to do" and the core features, he successfully guided the AI to handle the React implementation.
Python Email Marketing Platform (Viet Tool): Taking complexity to the next level, Hernán developed a comprehensive email campaign system tailored for recruiters. The tool features CSV batch importing, message previews, domain exclusions, and bounce tracking. Built using Python, the Flask framework, and a PostgreSQL database, this project highlights a profound takeaway: the programming language ceases to be a barrier when AI can choose the best technical stack for the solution.
LinkedIn Notes Plugin: A custom browser extension that adds a button to LinkedIn profiles, allowing users to save notes and track candidates.
The future of AI in the workplace
Hernán’s journey encapsulates a forward-thinking vision for AI adoption: empowering every role to solve their own technological bottlenecks. You no longer need to wait for a development team to build an internal tool. With a clear understanding of your problem and a conversational approach to AI, you can start to orchestrate your own solutions.
Are you ready to transform your daily workflows? Start small, identify a repetitive task today, and let AI be your technical co-pilot.
